Finals Care Package

Do you have friends or family (or yourself) who are taking finals in the coming weeks? Matt, a college student working in our marketing department, has been munching on some of our snacks from the warehouse, and commented that a lot of our stuff would be great for a finals care package or a finals survival kit. While we have plans in the works for our own line of pre-made kits, in the meantime, Matt recommended our Snack Care Package Deluxe, or even putting together your own care package from the site. If you have a college related care package design idea, telling us what items to put in and how many of each, post it in the comments. If we end up using your design, we might just have to send you one for free.

"WOUNDED HERO" BACKPACKS IN IRAQ

I was planning to post a different blog entry today, but this morning we received a bunch of photos that compelled me to post something different. As you may or may not be aware (see previous posts), we work a lot with the non-profit Soldiers' Angels organization -- they 'adopt' troops stationed overseas and send them regular care packages. We've created a whole line of inexpensive care packages along with them and their soldier donees. We've received many heartwarming letters back from the soldiers -- some of which we put on our store site HERE.

Soldiers' Angels has created something they call the "wounded hero" backpack. It is an actual backpack filled with various toiletries, clothes, and a handwoven blanket made by their volunteers around the country. We supply the toiletries to the backpack and provide fulfillment services to assemble them, package them, and ship them to Iraq. All of the backpacks are supported by donations (that can be made on the Soldiers' Angels site directly through this LINK).

Today we received a great letter from one of the Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq giving thanks for this wonderful program. They sent along some photos and I've posted one of them below:

THE SALAD DRESSING PACKET - A Dieter's Dream

Several months ago, someone posted on one of the forums of one of the leading dieting organization's website about our individual sizes of low fat and fat free salad dressing packets. Not only did we begin to sell a lot of the dressing packets, but we realized there was an audience for our products that we had not expected -- the dieter. Since then, we've added several more selections of fat free dressings, and we're continuing to add more (we just added a couple of the Wishbone Carb Options brand for those into cutting carbs).

The word seems to be spreading and several other dieting related websites have since found out about us and are enjoying the ability to get the single serving sizes of the salad dressing packets (although some frugal people get more than one serving per packet).

This past week, we received more enthusiastic email from dieters:

"As a person in Weight Watchers, these individual packages are an answered prayer for making staying on program easier! I can now take my own dressings to restaurants, work, and everywhere and have individual servings of my favorite snacks and cereals. A great time saver! Thanks, Minimus!" -- Amy K., Orlando, FL

I Hate Rain Delays

Our Purchasing Director, Jennifer Forman, came into my office today with the idea that our small lightweight ponchos would be perfect for when it rains while at the ballpark. With baseball season upon us, it sounds like a great idea... so much so that I'll put a coupon here for 5% off the ponchos -- use the code BLUEPONCHO, ORANGEPONCHO, and/or YELLOWPONCHO when you checkout and you'll get 5% off your purchases of the ponchos now through the end of May.

Helping Hospital Food

Oftentimes, we get exciting feedback from our customers, and we post it (with their permission) on our store homepage's random customer quote viewer. We just got this sad but heartwarming email and we were encouraged to share it here...
"I just came across your website and placed my first order! My father-in-law is currently hospitalized with cancer. He has been in 6 weeks now. We were all so happy when his appetite came back but he's getting tired of hospital food. He asked us to find individual packets of Miracle Whip so he could jazz up the food a little. We have been going nuts trying to find it. I even contacted Kraft to explain the situation and they would not help me out. So Thank God for your services and site! I wanted to let you know how much this meant to us!" -- Eva W., Illinois
